The Seahawk Series SATA/SAS Expansion Master arrays are intelligent and innovative storage subsystems for mission critical and high bandwidth applications. Purpose-built for high volume, fail-safe data storage applications, which combines dependability with extreme scalability and superior performance.
Delivering unprecedented performance and reliability, the Seahawk Series EMD 1600 integrates dual redundant SATA/SAS RAID controllers with transparent failover and failback functionality to ensure the highest data security with a wide range of 16 hot-swappable, high-performance, industry-standard SATA or SAS disk drives in a single, uniquely designed, highly accessible 3U storage enclosure that is able to endure the extreme physical stresses placed on storage subsystems today.
Featuring eight 4Gb Fibre Channel host ports on four redundant host channels and sixteen SATA/SAS disk channels, the embedded SATA/SAS RAID controllers enhance I/O efficiency and superior performance while ensuring extreme reliability and exceptional data availability in today's most data-intensive storage environments.
The Seahawk Series EMD 1600 features two SAS 4x SFF-8470 Wide Ports which allows the cascading of up to three Seahawk Series ESD 1600 SAS-Attached slave expansion arrays. This unique scalability supports up to 64 TeraBytes in a slim 12U rack height.
RAID Cache battery backup modules with Lithium-Ion battery power provides power to the RAID cache on each controller for up to 72 hours during an outage. Equipped with two fully redundant, hot-swappable cooling fan modules and two fully redundant, triple load-sharing 300 Watt hot-swappable redundant power supply units, the uniquely designed 3U 19" rack mountable enclosure has been customized to perform in the most rigorous storage environments where data availability is an imperative..
A variety of configuration and monitoring methods are available, either locally via the LCD keypad panel and the text-mode RS-232C terminal, or remotely through the Java-based GUI manager. All faulty conditions, including RAID configuration events, module failure, voltage and temperature readings, are instantly reported. A system administrator can select from the following notification methods to receive reports when away from the installation site: LAN broadcast, SNMP traps, email, fax, SMS and MSN Messenger.

Input an estimate of the amount of storage you will need. Your available storage capacity will decrease depending on the RAID level you choose. Do not include hot spares in your raw storage calculation.
Input the amount of data you currently have in use. This will be used to generate an estimate on the number of disks you will need for this amount of available storage, after accounting for the RAID level.
